WHY ISRAEL CAN BE INDIA'S BEST FRIEND FOREVER




On 4 July this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Israel. For the first time in the 70 year history of India, our PM visited Israel. India first recognised Israel in 1950, and diplomatic relations were established in 1992. Relations with Israel was considered as a taboo in Indian political and diplomatic sphere. Since It meant negligence of Palestine which, in turn, meant enraging crude oil-rich Arab countries outside India and enraging minority communities in India. However we have shed off our hesitation in acknowledging deepening ties with Jerusalem with time, for good. Israel is a country with whom we should have strong ties already till now. Here are some reasons why Israel is the best country for India to have friendship with.

  • Look at their excitementHave a look at the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official twitter handle when Our Prime Minister visited Israel.
He referred to Narendra Modi as his friend.


He even tweeted in Hindi


The enthusiasm with which Modi was welcomed was astonishing, since it was our first meeting for bilateral talks. Even Israeli people were enthusiastic.









  • Similar security challenges
    Ever since Israel has been created it has been forced to be involved in Arab-Israeli conflict and has been involved in war 8 times. India too has similar situation, it has went on war 5 times. Both the nations have hostile neighbours and both are facing terrorist attacks,infiltration and proxy wars. this means that both have to tackle in more similar ways. In fact the rise of Islamic extremist terrorism in both nations has already generated strong strategic alliance between the two.

    Israel is surrounded by its enemies which are ever ready to remove Israel from the map.

    India too is surrounded by an Islamic fundamentalist nation Pakistan ready to nuke India any time and and imperialist China
  • Both are the only safe heavens for a religionIsrael is the only place in the world where Jews are majority, are not tortured and are powerful. India is the only place in the world (other that Nepal) where Hindus are majority, are not tortured and are powerful. This creates and unknown bond.
  • India's attitude towards JewsJews are the most discriminated community in the world. In no country were they accepted. India and the United States are the only countries in the world where Jews are not tortured, and are tolerated. Actually, not only tolerated, but welcomed.

  • So much to gain/Ample trade opportunitiesIndia and Israel are working  together on IT, biotechnology, laser, electro-optics, facilitation of  R&D. Space, agriculture technology.Besides, trade b/n the two countries is also huge. Indian is the third largest Asian trade partner of Israel, and tenth largest partner overall. In the defence, Israel is the second largest source of defence equipment for India after Russia.
  • Intelligence SharingWhen R&AW was setup in 1968 by R. N. Kao, he was advised by the then PM Indira Gandhi to cultivate links with Israeli spy agency Mossad. Since then many links are been established between R&AW and Mossad to tackle Pakistan, China, North Korea and Arab Nations.

  • There helps to us even when we ignored them: We had been condemning Israel on international platform on Palestine issue and voting against them in the UN. We even opposed its consideration in UN . Still Israel has supported us very much. It supported us in all wars, in all forms, whether it is logistic diplomatic or any other manner. In the Kargil War, when the whole world was against us, Israel stood by our side, not only Israel supported us, but also provided us logistics, of which we were falling short.

    • So much to gain, so much similarities, so much support from their side,so much gains we both are having with mutual trade, still no great friendship between us. However, now, this step by Indian Prime Minister to start a new friendship is welcomed by heart, and we expect a great future of Indo-Israeli relationship.
